San Salvador is the capital of El Salvador. The people in San Salvador are generally friendly, though as in any large city, less inclined to engage in conversation with strangers on the street as compared to other parts of the country. In San Salvador there are nearly 2 million people. It is home to one-third of El Salvador’s population and one-half of the country’s wealth.
San Salvador has many beautiful monuments, and some of them date back to the early 20th Century, while others are more modern. Some of the most important monuments include the National Palace, Plaza Gerardo Barrios, Plaza la Libertad, etc.
One of the most recognized in El Salvador is the Monumento al Divino Salvador del Mundo, or “Monument of the Savior of the World”. The Savior is San Salvador Patron Saint is celebrated with massive festivities during the first full week of August every day.
In the first week of August we celebrated the Divine Savior of the World, eating a lot of food, throwing fireworks and carrying in a large cradle the baby Jesus from the church to a few streets.
